ITV2 Love Island viewers call 'meet the parents' episode 'cruel' ahead of final

The Love Island finale will air tonight (August 1) and soon we will have a winner.

Only one couple can take home the crown with four couples going head to head.

One couple will be crowned the winner of Love Island on Monday night as the eight-week long series reaches the final. Viewers have watched the ITV dating show every night as the batch of single contestants fell in love, fell out and formed strong friendships.

During Sunday night's episode, Paige Thorne and Adam Collard missed out on a spot in the final after being voted the least compatible couple.

Because of this either Dami Hope and Indiyah Polack, Gemma Owen and Luca Bish, Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and Davide Sanclimenti as well as Tasha Ghouri and Andrew Le Page are in the chance of winning.

However on the run up to tonight's finale, each of the Islanders were briefly reunited with their family members and some of their friends after weeks, and in some cases months, of no contact with the outside world.

The episode was full of emotion with happy and sad tears being shed however viewers were left baffled by one of the rules during the episode. The rules were that contestants were unable to hug their family or friends and instead could only talk to them from a few metres away.

Ahead of the family members entering the villa, Iain Stirling explained to people watching the show: "The parents are here. Sadly they still aren't allowed to hug or kiss so they'll have to stand two metres apart whilst nodding at each other."

The reason behind this, according to MEN, is due to Covid which is what happened last year. Despite this people still didn't understand why this was happening just days before the final episode with many saying it "didn't make sense" with others dubbing it as "cruel."

Taking to social media one wrote: "How cruel can you be for not letting them hug their family, social distancing is over as another added: "Why can’t they hug? they’re leaving in 2 days this is kinda cruel."

Another tweeted: "Nah but it's so stupid that they can't hug. They've been sat on a plane with 200 other people to get to Mallorca, gone through the airport with thousands of others and cant even hug their own kids? Make it make sense."

"They could hug every new bombshell that walked in but not their own families? Make it make sense" a fourth wrote.
