ITV Who Wants to be a Millionaire player 'owed £15k' by muddled pal

ITV Who Wants to be a Millionaire viewers were shocked after a player made a devastating decision on tonight's episode.

The new series of the hit quiz show, which was filmed before current lockdown measures came into effect, saw Lynne Ashcroft take to the famous chair.

Jeremy Clarkson hosts the show which sees players answer a series of questions in a bid to win increasing sums of money.

Lynne got off to a rocky start, using several of her lifelines before reaching the safety net of £1,000.

When she made it to £16,000, Jeremy asked Lynne the question which would potentially bag her £32,000.

The question was: "Prince William was married in the same year as which of these recent events?"

The options were: Nelson Mandela died, London hosted the Olympics, News of the World closed or David Cameron resigned.

Not knowing the answer, Lynne used her final lifeline to phone her friend John, who suggested opting for London hosting the Olympics.

It was the wrong answer - Prince William was married in 2011 which was the same year the News of the World closed.

But Lynne decided to go with her friend's guess and lost £15,000, leaving the show with just £1,000.

Viewers took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

Kevin said: "What an idiot...2011 couldn't be an Olympic year".

Pete said: "John owes you 15k love".

Joseph said: "Oh Lynne no. Wrong answer."

Gaz added: "Another pillock of a phone a friend!"

Simon said: "She blew it!"

Jacquie simply said: "Nooooooooooo!!!!!!!"
