ITV viewers outraged as This Morning expert says grandparents need consent to kiss children

Viewers of This Morning were left angry after an expert said grandparents need consent before kissing their grandchildren.

The debate on the ITV show started as a new initiative has been rolled out in Australia.

Expert Jane Evans said the new initiative is "simplistic" when speaking to hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford.

She said it means children can decide who can and cannot touch their bodies, and added: "When, how, what, where, which is just to keep them safe.

"They have to ask permission.

"Children can't make that distinction, they just get the message."

However Rebecca Jayne, who has two children, said the initiative is "nonsense".

She said: "If we start having these boundaries with children [...] we're going to breed cold and emotionless children."

Devon Live reports it left viewers of the show outraged by Jane's comments with many taking to Twitter to shout about it.

One fan tweeted: "In 99.9% of situations, a child will be fine with a grandparent or parent hugging/kissing them. So if they don't have a problem, neither should this annoying woman."

Another commented: "who is this woman? Really, grandparents kissing your kids is a major crisis? No wonder kids are so messed up! Boundaries are a good idea but not stopping everything. My grandparents never kissed me they always hugged me. I get the point but it’s  #helicopterparents "

One added: "What is this lady talking about not kissing there grandparents,Absolute joke..get a life."

Another said: "Does this woman not realise hugging & kissing your children & grandchildren "feels natural" because IT IS NATURAL!! It is human nature to love & nurture. I find it sinister her making this about 'safety'"

This Morning airs weekdays at 10.30am on ITV
