ITV viewers 'in bits' over 'moving' tribute to late Queen during Christmas carol service

ITV aired emotional tributes throughout Saturday's special show Royal Carols: Together at Christmas, to the late Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away in September.

Kate Middleton led the way for the special service, as she began with a touching tribute to the Monarch which left viewers moved.

Later on in the show, she again remembered the Queen as she spoke with special guests who had been recognised for going above and beyond for their communities.

It was during this talk that she shared a photo of the Queen one Christmas, greeting children - recalling Her Majesty's love for the festive period.

She also revealed a photo of the Queen when she was younger, appearing in a Christmas play - as she reflected on the fact that this year will be the first Christmas without her.

Soon, others paid emotional tributes to her including her grandson William, Prince of Wales, who read an extract from a past Christmas speech made by the Queen in her much-loved televised talks to the nation.

Pictures of the Queen featured throughout, including one projected onto a piano.

Kate's opening tribute to the late Monarch said: "This Christmas will be our first without Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth.

"Her Majesty held Christmas close to her heart, as a time that brought people together and reminded us of the importance of faith, friendship and family, and to show empathy and compassion.

"This year, we've invited hundreds of inspiring individuals to the service. Those who showcase the power of connectedness and community values, allowing us to continue Her Majesty's tradition of recognising and thanking those who have gone above and beyond to support others.

"Her Majesty leaves with us an incredible legacy and one that has deeply inspired many of us."

Kate dedicated the service to the Queen and to "all those who are sadly no longer with us".

She added: "So, whilst Christmas will feel very different this year, we can still remember the memories and traditions we shared.

"Take time to slow down and celebrate with family and friends all the wonderful things that make Christmas so special."

Viewers took to Twitter over the service, with many admitting to being "in bits" and "sobbing" throughout.

One viewer said: "This has been a beautiful carol service, everyone coming together with love and compassion to celebrate Christmas and remember the Queen. Catherine should be proud of putting this together and would've made the Queen proud."

Another viewer tweeted: "Such a beautiful lady #KateMiddleton tonight’s #royalcarols #togetheratchristmas was wonderful and lovely tributes to our late Queen."

A third viewer said: "Just watched #RoyalCarols there were a few tears, a lovely service with memories of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth entwined throughout."

The comments kept coming, with another reading: "Honestly this is making me a little emotional the tribute to the Queen and then St Mary’s choir had me in bits," as a fifth said: "Sat here blubbing now."

A sixth viewer commented: "Watching #royalcarols the tribute piece to the late Majesty the Queen is beautiful. Think HRH the princess of Wales did a fabulous job... classic and timeless yet heartwarming and touching."
