Fans of The Chase were furious on Tuesday evening as they watched, what they deemed, the ‘worst ending to a show ever’.
A quartet of contestants, named Mark, Rhom, Rebekah and Kath, battled it out with ‘Dark Destroyer’ Shaun Wallace to try and win some scraps of money on the hit ITV game show – hosted by Bradley Walsh.
But the mix of male and female contestants fell at every hurdle as they blundered their way through the show – and towards a humiliating failure.
Through the various rounds, the Chaser proved too smart to outfox – with Mark, Rhom and Rebekah each caught out by 61-year-old Shaun.
Sole survivor Kath floundered as she struggled through the final round which saw her go against the clock in a battle of general knowledge against brianbox Shaun.
After banking a not too shabby £4,000 on her own in her individual round, she was then faced with fighting Shaun alone in the tense final round.
But perhaps nerves caught up with the retired customer assistant as she failed to answer many questions for the final round – getting just five correct answers.
The five lights presented for the jackpot were easy to beat for the Chaser, and Kath too ended up going home with zero money after the humiliating performance.
Shaun smashed through his own five questions, catching Kathy when he still had an impressive one minute and 33 seconds left on the clock.
Applauding his challenger, despite her loss, Shaun said: "You were let down my Rhom and Mark who should've stuck to the middle and it could've been a completely different outcome.
"You did really well, you should be proud of yourself."
Viewers tuning in to the ITV show were dismayed at the abysmal performance by the team and took to Twitter to rage at the poor episode.
One fan wrote: "Worst ending ever.”
Another exclaimed: “Only caught the last 5 minutes...Missed a classic ...not. #thechase.”
And another fan shared their disappointment, but vowed to tune in again on Wednesday, tweeting: "A waste of an hour see you all tomorrow #thechase."
Meanwhile, in a recent episode, Shaun took delight in mocking show host Bradley.
The Chaser was unimpressed when the 61-year-old attempted to impersonate Prime Minister Boris Johnson during the course of an episode.
Shaun mocked the star to declare his impression: "Sounded nothing like him!"
While a slightly embarrassed Bradley concurred that he sounded more like: “me doing Tony Blair with a mouthful of marbles!”
Fans of The Chase might not have long left to enjoy banter between Bradley and the Chasers – as the host has teased he will soon retire from TV presenting.
He said last month: “You know what, in a couple of years' time I won’t have to do any of it, I’ll be retired and that’ll be it."
