ITV Vera fans floored by missing episodes of hit show as bosses make announcement

Vera fans will have to wait a while before they can catch new episodes, it has been confirmed.

The hit ITV crime series follows the exploits of the obsessive DCI Vera Stanhope, and it boasts a loyal following. The show will return to ITV 1 and also the ITV Hub at some point after it was recently bumped from the schedule - though nobody knows when.

Fans of the long-running show, which was released in 2011, were irate after being treated to a couple of new episodes before Vera was promptly replaced on the ITV schedules. Star Brenda Blethyn, who plays the eponymous Vera, appeared on today's This Morning to offer fans an update.

Of the scheduling issue, presenter Holly Willoughby said: "We've got two more episodes of the current series of Vera." The host then continued: "We've got episodes one, two, three and four".

Brenda Blethyn replied: "Yes, they are out now. There will be another one with five and six at some point."

Birmingham Live reports fans were crushed after it emerged the show would be replaced by Trigger Point in January. Debbie Blackman said on Twitter last night after the end of the episode: "As much as I'm looking forward to #TriggerPoint I would rather more #Vera actually @ITV."

Many more fans took to social media to share their thoughts. On Twitter, Helen asked: "Dare I ask is that the last night of the series? @VeraSeries #hopenot #Vera ".

An ITV Vera star has shared all the details about axed scenes that will never make it to air ahead of the series finale. Ibinabo Jack later explained why some scenes have been axed by the show's makers.

Speaking to the Daily Express, she shared: "There are so many things that happen that don't make the final because we couldn't keep it together or certain shots that just looked funny. Kenny had to do a thing of pretending to walk down a flight of stairs. The stairs didn't exist, so we had to fake that he was going down the stairs and on set it looked ridiculous, but brilliant when we watched the episode back."
