ITV told Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway 'should know better' as segment ends in tears

ITV show Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway has found itself in the firing line with viewers after last night's episode. This week's installment of the night-time entertainment show was as jam-packed as ever, and had viewers on the edges of their seats as the Geordie duo got up to their usual antics alongside co-star Stephen Mulhern.

But one of the show's segments, QuestionCam, which had set out to be a 'feelgood' part of the show, quickly left a sour taste in some viewers mouths, after they branded it 'fake'. The section began with ITV Saturday Night Takeaway hosts Ant and Dec giving audience members the opportunity to ask any question they wanted.

The questions appeared completely random, but many fans of the show weren't convinced. During the segment, an employee was offered a promotion and a child was introduced to a brand new puppy for the family.

But after one question ended in tears – of the happy kind, luckily – viewers at home complained. However it was a particularly heartwarming question that got fans suspicious. In the studio, guest Nick was brought on stage with his step-daughter Rihanna, and he had no idea what was going on.

Ant and Dec told Nick that Rihanna had a question she'd wanted to ask for a long time. She told him: "Nick, as you know, because my father passed away before I was born I have never had a father figure before and a dad to look up to in my life.

"I already see you as my dad and you make me feel complete, that's why I've brought you here tonight to ask you to take this massive step forward with you. Ant and Dec enlisted the help of Nick's favourite football team, the studio audience and his family at home to ask the question.

She then asked: "Will you adopt me?" Wiping away tears, Nick answered: "Course I will." The duo hugged and Ant described it as a "very beautiful moment".

Nick said: "It means everything, she's an absolute diamond. I couldn't have asked for a better daughter, it's priceless."

But viewers at home couldn't help but question whether or not what they'd seen was real. One said: "Why is he tearing up before anything has been said? It's like he knew it was coming."

Someone else said: "Nick definitely knows what is going to happen." Referencing the puppy moment, another said: "They obviously knew the puppy was there for ages... so fake."

@Borisnose2 tweeted: "How fake can you get.... #saturdaynighttakeaway." @Loz171107 said: "This show is so fake. People in audience know they are going to be chosen for the phone game and the people they face time also know. Thought you were better than this #SaturdayNightTakeaway."

And someone else added: "They've definitely seen that dog before haha." However despite the conspiracy, others were loving the touching segment, which one saying: "Fricking bawling my eyes out."

And another said: "Absolutely gone watching Saturday Night Takeaway," adding a series of crying emojis.

Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway airs on ITV on Saturdays from 7pm
