ITV to air The Italian Job ahead of England v Italy Euro 2020 final

ITV are pulling out all the stops to whip the country into a frenzy ahead of England v Italy on Sunday by screening The Italian Job right before the match.

ITV earned a peak audience of over 27 million for England's tense semi final against Denmark on Wednesday night, which was eventually won by a Harry Kane goal as he pounced on the ball after having his penalty saved by Kasper Schmichael.

The England captain and Spurs striker's goal earned England a place in a major final for the first time since their World Cup win in 1966 and it was quickly confirmed that both ITV and the BBC will show Sunday's final.

Initially both channels had set down 7pm start times for their coverage but ITV's will now begin at 6.30pm after the channel air a certain Michael Caine film.

The news was confirmed by an ITV scheduler on Twitter just after lunchtime on Thursday before GMB boss Erron Gordon then tweeted: "BREAKING: @ITV are showing ‘The Italian Job’ ahead of coverage of Sunday’s #EURO2020

Plenty of viewers have reacted with delight to the news, with one tweeting: "The Italian job starring Michael Caine to be screened on ITV before the main event on Sunday night, it had to be.."

A Scottish viewer joked: "Are ITV really putting The Italian Job on before the final?* I appreciate Braveheart would be showing on a loop on Scottish telly right now if we made a final / the last 16."

After he's uttered his famous "blow the bloody doors off!" line, England fans will be hoping Gareth Southgate's men blow Italy away in the Wembley final.

The inclusion of The Italian Job in Sunday's ITV schedule is bad news for Harry Potter fans as the Chamber of Secrets has now been axed to make way for it.
