ITV to air thank-you from NHS heroes immediately after 8pm Clap for Carers applause

A tribute from NHS staff thanking people for the weekly Clap for Carers applause will be broadcast by ITV tonight (April 16).

ITV will pause programming for two minutes from 8pm tonight, to encourage viewers to head to their doorsteps or balconies to show their appreciation for the key workers who are grafting tirelessly to save lives during the coronavirus pandemic.

From 8.02pm, the channel will air a two-minute tribute from doctors, nurses and care staff, to thank people for their support and for staying at home during the lockdown, PA reports.

NHS staff say "your clapping echoes through every hospital" in the video, which ends with doctors and nurses clapping and saying "this is for you."

ITV is dedicating Thursday, April 16 to NHS staff. NHS Day kicked off with the Lorraine show this morning.

Lorraine, This Morning, Loose Women and ITV News are broadcasting messages from frontline workers and thank-you videos from people who are staying at home.

The Tonight programme will also feature stories from coronavirus survivors
