ITV Tipping Point viewers declare 'game over' in first round after contestant's record-breaking drop

Tipping Point viewers declared Monday's episode of the quiz show "over" in the first round after a contestant scored a record-breaking drop. In an episode of the ITV programme first broadcast in 2021, host Ben Shephard revealed history had been made when Phil from Cornwall caused 22 counters to fall in a single go.

Among the electrician's round one haul was the "x2" counter, meaning his £1,100 win was doubled to £2,200. In response to Phil describing the drop as "amazing", Shephard said: "That's one word for it, yes.

"The previous Tipping Point record in round one with the double was 21 counters. You've just beaten that record with 22 counters across the Tipping Point.

"It is a huge drop. In over 1000 episodes that's the biggest one we've ever seen in this round."

Reacting to the record-breaking drop on social media, some viewers felt the game was over within the first 10 minutes.

Steve suggested: "Ben is silently fuming at that record drop! #tippingpoint"

Phil ended up beating fellow contestants Dishi, Nick and Beth to make it to the final. He failed to win the £10,000 jackpot but was more than happy to take home the £3,550 he had banked in the previous rounds.

Tipping Point airs weekdays at 4pm on ITV.
