ITV Tipping Point fans fume over huge change to machine's tokens

Fans of Tipping Point noticed a big change in the machine's tokens on tonight's show.

Host Ben Shephard welcomed four new players to take on the machine. John, Diane, Anne and Tom all appeared on the ITV game show with hopes of going home slightly richer.

But fans weren't happy with the changes with some saying that it indicated a repeat of the hit TV show. They noticed that the episode included the use of black and white bonus counters.

Taking to Twitter, David said: "Colour change klaxon #tippingpoint". Another user said: "Repeat and different coloured counters." Meanwhile, John said: "Black & White bonus counters on #TIPPINGPOINT How old is this? @ITV."

There are a number of counters included in the game. Contestants win £50 for each counter that drops into the win zone during their turn. Any counters that bounce out of the machine and land on either the floor or the lip of the win zone during a turn are credited toward that contestant's score.

Three "mystery counters" were added in series two, each labelled with a question mark. At the start of the game, two are on the upper shelf and one is on the lower. If a mystery counter enters the win zone, the contestant in control of the machine wins a prize such as household items or holidays.

Two "double counters" labelled "x2" were added in series five, one each on the upper and lower shelves, which double the value of all counters that land in the win zone on that same drop. If both double counters fall in a single drop, the total value is quadrupled.

From series nine, the "bonus counters" changed colours from black and white to green and yellow. This was so that they stand out and makes them easily identifiable to the players and viewers at home.
