This Morning viewers were left saying 'here we go again' as they were left unimpressed by the show's opening segment during the first edition of the programme of the week. Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were back fronting the ITV daytime favourite on Monday morning (February 6).
And the pair were forced to kick things off with a warning to This Morning viewers. "Here we go, right, you've been warned," Phillip, 60, started as he explained that they would be chatting about the finale of Happy Valley, which aired on BBC One on Sunday night. "Everyone has been talking about it and loads of people are trying to avoid it..."
Holly, 41, then chipped in: "You know what, we'll still get blamed for it," as Phillip agreed: "Of course we will but we could not have given you a bigger warning," as he instructed viewers to turn down their volume at the right moment to avoid the spoilers.
Phillip confirmed they wouldn't be using a clip from the finale on the screen, so all fans of the show had to do was mute their TV screens, turn over the channel or leave the room. A small banner was then seen on the bottom of the screen which the pair made sure they highlighted to viewers to ensure no one missed the warning.
As the show shared a teaser of the last episode, Holly and Phil were then seen on the sofa as they were joined by two experts, criminologist David Wilson and former detective Sue Hill, to talk about the showdown between Sergeant Catherine Cawood and Tommy Lee Royce.
But viewers weren't impressed as they delved into the real-life similarities of the drama. @allen_rob said: "Here we go again... Psychopath chat rinse and repeat rubbish #thismorning." @Hotsunnydaze1 complained: "This is so OTT #ThisMorning." @RobsonMcTanned asked: "Why are they talking like it's real? #thismorning."
However, they were also unimpressed by a slight 'brag' from Phillip as he revealed that he and Holly got to watch the finale before anyone else as they were working on Dancing on Ice on Sunday evening.
"We were on Dancing on Ice last night. We’re very lucky and thank you to the BBC because they sent us through last week, the preview episode," he said. "We got to watch it on Friday, there’s a secret you’ve got to keep quiet. I've never had such a brilliant poker face in my life!"
@NordicLaura tweeted: "Did they just say they saw it on Friday, before everyone else......??? #ThisMorning." @Joolz1904 said: "Phil has to let everyone know he was one of the first to see the Happy Valley finale." @KarenlovesGB fumed: "Given the Happy Valley finale to watch on Friday? Why is this pair given preferential treatment yet again? And showing off about too smh #thismorning."
However, this isn't uncommon practice as TV critics and the like will get a first look at shows they'll either be writing about or talking about live on air in advance with strict instructions not to share it before the said episode/programme has aired.
