The opening segment on This Morning divided viewers today, with some calling it ‘cringe’ and ‘embarrassing’.
Some fans were completely weirded out about the Wizard of Oz themed start to the ITV programme, which saw presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield play Dorothy and the Scarecrow.
Beginning with Holly - complete with ruby slippers - landing in ‘Oz’ before bumping into the Scarecrow - aka Phil - who added to the bizarre skit with a rendition of If I Only Had a Brain.
Proceedings got weirder as it transpired Holly’s entrance - in a This Morning taxi - saved the Munchkins from the Wicked Witch of the East (cue another song opportunity).
The episode marked Halloween as well as the 80th anniversary of the American musical fantasy film, which also saw a Cowardly Lion and Tin Man assist Dorothy in her quest to return home.
Ranj appeared as the Mayor of Munchkin Land, Alison Hammond as the lion and Vanessa Feltz was - quite brilliantly, it has to be said - the Wicked Witch of the West.
While some were not convinced with the re-enactment, few could deny the make up and outfits were pretty impressive.
Baffled viewers took to Twitter to try and make sense of it.
One said: “I don’t know whether to cringe or laugh.”
A second posted: “Thought I was hallucinating for one moment.”
A third added: “Christ on a bike this is embarrassing.”
But others couldn’t get enough of the Oz-themed segment.
One said: “What a fab start to the show.”
Another agreed: “I enjoyed that so much more than what I should have done.”
A third said: “Absolutely loving the wizard of oz theme on #ThisMorning my favorite!”
