ITV This Morning viewers distracted by pet detective's 'manspreading'

Pet detective Robert Kenny appeared on ITV This Morning to share with viewers an important message over the rise of dognapping.

However, disgruntled viewers became distracted by the way Kenny chose to sit on live TV and took to Twitter to question the detective.

Kenny, who is the only certified pet detective in the UK, was joined by Freya Woodhall on the This Morning sofa, who believes her Sprocker Spaniel Willow was taken from her garden last September.

Robert said: "It's devastating for Freya here with her dog. Unfortunately we get huge amounts of calls to our office every week with regards to stolen pets and there's an approximate increase this year of 5 per cent."

Although the item was meant as a warning, viewers instead went on social media to discuss the seating arrangements.

One viewer said: "Who sits like that on live TV taking the statement make yourself at home literally. Sit up straight will ya" while another user said "someone tell the pet detective to close his legs! such rude and arrogant behaviour."

Others used the term 'manspreading', which refers to males sitting in public transport with legs wide apart.

Kenny, from Happy Tails Detective, says that his business is booming after new figures reveal almost 2,000 designer dogs were stolen last year alone.

Since 2007, they've solved over 4,300 lost pet cases and have recovered dogs from the UK, Czech Republic, Australia and Ireland.

Kenny added that dognappers will usually pick up four or five pooches in a van, decide which ones they are keeping, then dump the rest around two miles away from their homes.

He explained: "The demand for what I do is massive. We deal in approximately 250 calls a week between missing cats and stolen dogs.

"There are very few dogs now who are actually lost dogs. That's how high stolen cases are becoming.

"With Freya’s situation it was clear to me, this was pretty opportunistic. This dog wasn’t stolen to order."

This Morning's Holly Willoughby left screaming on live show after Phillip Schofield sets fire to her hand

Freya warned other dog owners not to leave their pets alone, comparing it to leaving a baby in a pram outside a shop.

Speaking about Willow's disappearance, she said: "She was happily playing in the garden. I thought it was a safe space. I went out, came back and she was gone. I couldn’t find her.

"I did think maybe she did get out of the garden but it's so out of her character not to come back.

"Be weary. You wouldn’t leave your child outside a shop in a pram. Don’t do it to your dog. Keep your eyes on them if you can."

Fans go wild for Holly Willoughby's dress on This Morning as she pays tribute to the Royal Baby
