ITV This Morning viewers baffled as Eamonn Holmes fails to turn up leaving Ruth Langsford to present alone

This Morning viewers were left baffled today when Ruth Langsford was forced to present This Morning on her own.

The 59-year-old TV personality opened ITV's flagship show without husband Eamonn Holmes.

She explained that he was caught in traffic following a 'terrible' accident on the roads.

Explaining her other half's absence after the opening titles rolled, Ruth said: "Good Morning. Welcome to your Friday's This Morning with me Ruth Langsford and normally my husband Eamonn Holmes.

"But there's a terrible accident that happened in London today and there is complete traffic gridlock.

"So he's nearly here, he's on his way, he's fine. So I'll start this on my own".

But while she was forced to conduct the first interview with American Idol star Adam Lambert solo, fans were confused as to why he had not made his way into work with his wife.

One said on Twitter: "So Eamonn & Ruth don't travel to #thismorning together?"

But Eamonn was back on the sofa just in time to revisit his, now iconic, interview with magician David Blaine.

It has been 18 years since the broadcaster stared into the eyes of the American on what was then GMTV.

In today's interview, Eamonn told him he had no hard feelings about what happened nearly two decades ago and it was, in fact, "the making of him".

*This Morning is on ITV1, weekdays and Sundays from 10:30am
