ITV This Morning's Philip Schofield advises guest to 'read the room' over poor advice

Philip Schofield advised a guest to "read the room" while on today's This Morning.

Beverley Turner was on the ITV talk show to discuss some main headlines, including an MP suggesting that people learn to cook and budget properly to avoid using food banks. Conservative MP, Lee Anderson, was accused of insulting people who are struggling to feed their families during a debate at the House of Commons.

He said: "I think you will see first hand that there's not this massive use for food banks in this country but generation after generation who cannot cook properly, they can't cook a meal from scratch. They cannot budget."

Beverley seemed to back the idea, and said that people should "empower themselves" by learning how to cook and budget properly. However presenters Rochelle Humes and Phil didn't agree.

Rochelle said: "It just feels out of touch." Phil added: "You can just hear the full country screaming 'read the room.'"

Viewers took to Twitter to bash the poor advice. Cheryl said: "Learn to cook? You could be the next Gordon Ramsey but if you cant afford food and electricity/gas then whether you can cook or not isn't the issue. Muppets #ThisMorning".

Richard said: "Bev Turner does make a point that some people can't cook. But whether you can cook or not, it doesn't change the fact that people claim food banks because they have no money once the bills are put in place. #ThisMorning."

Hannah said: "Cooking courses? How patronising! Yes maybe some people need the education, not everyone does though, people who can cook can also find themselves in poverty. So judgemental. What a way to make people in a bad situation feel even worse #ThisMorning"

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and the ITV Hub
