ITV This Morning's Eamonn and Ruth question doctor's 'dirty' shower habit

This Morning took a different turn today when they interviewed a doctor who hasn't showered properly for years.

Dr James Hamblin confessed he 'rinses with water' and has not used shampoo or body conditioners in four years.

Questioning his decision, Eamonn Holmes asked: "You look very well, but do you smell well?"

Dr Hamblin said: "It took a while to get used to it, but I have asked people if I smell and they say no and my wife says the same."

He said he started not showering using body and hair products as an experiment.

Dr Hamblin said: "I was trying to be more militaristic, I was also learning about skin microbiome for a story."

He then explained: "Most microbes that live on us are neutral or beneficial to use, so maybe we shouldn't wash them off so much...

"If I need to look presentable in a short time, I will just hop in the shower and rinse with water.

"The average person is just wasting time, getting dry skin and wasting money on products. You can do a lot just by scrubbing with water."

However, This Morning viewers were not impressed with Dr Hamblin's hypothesis.

Natalie tweeted: "I have two showers a day, and no doctor is going to convince me otherwise."

Zoe said: "Wished I’d finished eating my bowl of crunchy nut cornflakes before seeing ‘The Doctor who hasn’t showered in four years’ piece", followed by a vomit emoji.

Demita tweeted: "I think I’ll stick to smelling fresh and not smelling of sweat."

Sarah wrote: "What have I just tuned into? ‘The doctor who hasn’t showered in four years’. Does he want a medal or something? Bet he stinks."

And Sofia said: "Just shout 'I'm dirty' and go. Stop talking. Embarrassing."
