ITV This Morning's Alison and Dermot under fire over controversial outburst

This Morning's Alison Hammond and Demot O'Leary were under fire over a controversial outburst on today's show.

The presenters are fronting ITV's flagship daytime programme for the first week of the New Year as Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield enjoy an extended Christmas break.

The hosts explored how anyone looking to start a health kick can join in with the 10,000 step challenge on Wednesday's edition.

They were joined by Dr Zoe Williams who explained how people can also do a squat challenge to help them get active.

The show tasked its fans on Twitter to do 10 squats during each commercial break with the goal of reaching 50 a day.

Alison and Dermot were guided by the doctor on how to complete the challenge and urged viewers to join in.

However, the hosts came under fire during the task when they each sung a line from a song by R Kelly.

The musician was found guilty of eight counts of sex trafficking and racketeering at a trial in September 28 last year - and viewers criticised the presenters for breaking into the song on-air.

@TashAmaka said: "Please don’t sing a sex offender’s song on #thismorning"

Linzi commented : "You know they will die inside when they realise they sang R Kelly."

Traylor tweeted alongside a gif: "Alison & Dermot singing R Kelly"

@MsDiva_Fabulous added: "We don’t sing those songs anymore dear"

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITV Hub
