ITV This Morning presenters 'get a sweat on' after Basil Brush's Boris Johnson barb

This Morning presenters were left with "a sweat on" after Basil Brush aimed a jibe at Boris Johnson on today's show.

Monday's edition of ITV's flagship daytime programme was hosted by Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary. The two were joined by the iconic fictional red fox, who is celebrating his 60th year in showbiz.

The comedy character is commemorating the milestone with a tour around the country. Basil will be performing two separate routines for children and adults - and Alison questioned whether he addresses the Prime Minister in the Unleashed show.

Basil responded: "We touch on politics, we touch on dating apps. I was thinking of myself actually as Prime Minister because this partygate thing is the big rage, isn't it?

"I always said that anybody who wants to be a Prime Minister or a politician shouldn't be a politician. I don't want to be a politician, but I could make a perfect Prime Minister. Believe me, I could fox it up worse than anybody else."

Dermot put his head in his hands and Alison Hammond erupted in hysterics after the jibe.. Basil added: "You had a little sweat on, didn't you there?"

Viewers following the show on Twitter were in stitches after the comedy character's appearance.

Nikki said: "Basil brush for Prime Minister"

Victoria added: "Basil Brush should be on more often"

Ryan tweeted: "Basil Brush is a legend there I've said it"

Daisy posted: "I've always loved Basil Brush. He's foxtastic!"

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and the ITV Hub
