ITV This Morning fans respond as Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield Christmas holiday continues and Andi Peters 'starts trouble' with brutal jibe

This Morning viewers appear to have been expecting Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield back on screen as the show returned after a festive break. Those tuning into the ITV daytime show were left surprised to see Josie Gibson and Andi Peters at the helm on Tuesday (January 3).

The pair last hosted the show together on December 23. Andi took over from Craig Doyle who had been Josie's co-host for the last week before Christmas. This Morning did appear on air between Christmas and New Year and viewers said they were 'very surprised' to see Holly and Phillip hosting.

The show's main hosting duo did appear on the programme for a Christmas Day special which featured festive favourites such as Sir Cliff Richard and The Muppets and was pre-recorded.

The special was recorded before Holly, 41, and Phillip, 60, said their goodbyes for the year to viewers earlier this month and were replaced by Alison Hammond, Dermot O'Leary, Jose Gibson, Craig Doyle and Andi Peters.

But despite Holly and Phillip opening the show as if it were live, other were quickly aware it had been pre-recorded. @missohlola said at the time: "Lol why are they are patronising us by pretending the shows this week are live 'oh i've got leftovers' the shows were recorded when they were off air for the World Cup #ThisMorning."

So with the new year underway, This Morning fans expected to see Holly and Phillip back at the helm of the popular programme. However, they were greeted by Andi who said: "Hello and welcome to your Tuesday's This Morning," before Josie added: "But this isn't any old This Morning, this is your first of 2023!"

Andi then wasted no time in issuing a brutal jibe as he joked: "The A-Team are in, everybody in the studio, the full-timers are back working... Oh no, we're stand-ins, sorry."

Meanwhile, viewers were flocking to social media to comment. @Mabel_Mouse_ tweeted: "Bloody Hell! How many weeks do Phil and Holly need off? They’re at home more than they are at work! Not complaining about having Josie and Andi in though #ThisMorning."

@SenorApple2014 commented: "Lol, it looks like Phil & Holly are having an extended siesta again! #ThisMorning." @orchidfoxy posted: "Where's Holly and Phil? Holidays are over! #thismorning." @ChrisDeityUK posted: "So all the regular folk back at work but Holly and Phil still on holiday? How nice for them. #ThisMorning." @SpannaD added: "WHAT!?! Someone other than Phil & Holly doing Spin To Win?!? Is this #ThisMorning new resolution???"

Responding to Andi's quip, @Htaylor4476 said: "#thismorning Loving Andi's pop at part time Holly & Phil." @abronomaa78 wrote: "@andipeters starting trouble hahahaha #thismorning."
