ITV The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebration: Viewers confused as Tom Cruise appears

The Queen kicked off her Platinum Jubilee Celebrations early tonight.

ITV hosted a night of all-star celebrations, with 1,300 performers and 500 horses, in a tribute to the Queen's 70 years on the throne. Hosted by Phillip Schofield and Julie Etchingham, the show was presented live from outside the grounds of Windsor Castle.

The night was broken up into separate acts, each hosted by a different celebrity, including Tom Cruise, Damian Lewis, Adjoa Andoh and Alan Titchmarsh. Other stars making an appearance included Andrew Lloyd Webber, Ant and Dec, Joan Collins, Mo Farah, David Jason, Kelly Holmes, Moira Stewart, Trevor McDonald, and Maureen Lipman.

Tom Cruise was the first superstar celebrity to grace Phil and Julie with his presence. Phil asked why Tom said yes to appearing on the ITV show.

He replied: "I was just very honoured. She is just a woman who I greatly admire. She is a woman who had tremendous dignity and I admire her devotion. What she has accomplished has been historic."

The Hollywood actor later went on to talk about his new movie. Viewers took to Twitter to share their confusion as to why he was on such a British programme getting interviewed, instead of them seeing people performing.

Amanda said: "This ITV program is not what I thought. Why is Tom Cruise on plugging his movie? I thought this was a concert/pageant type thing to celebrate HM The Queen's long reign #PlatinumJubilee."

Another user said: "#PlatinumJubilee Why did we need 20 minutes of Tom Cruise?" Laura said: "Why Tom Cruise? #PlatinumJubilee."

Alexander said: "I think we’re all wondering…why is Tom Cruise there?! #PlatinumJubilee." Meanwhile, another user said: "Why, in the name of all the is British, is @TomCruise the headline name for a jubilee programme????"
