ITV The Games viewers divided over new live show and it's reminding some of sports day

Tonight viewers of ITV's The Games watched the first episode of the live event taking place at the famous Crystal Palace stadium.

Freddie Flintoff and Holly Willoughby hosted the sporting event which sees a group of celebrities battle it out in the athletics arena, the swimming pool, gymnasium and velodrome.

Starting tonight (May 9), The Games will broadcast live every night this week and throughout each episode, the stars will put their sporting prowess to the test in order to rack up points on the medals table.

The Games will also see former professional footballer and presenter Alex Scott as trackside reporter and former professional football player and presenter Chris Kamara as commentator. There will also be sporting guests on the panel, including Tyson fury.

And after 12 weeks of gruelling training, 12 celebrities will be now be competing on our screens - and the line-up has been a smash hit.

Taking part in the series includes famous faces such as Kevin Cliffton, Ryan Thomas, Max George, Wes Nelson and Chelcee Grimes.

But whilst some viewers at home seem to love the show tweeting that they're "digging #thegames #itv pretty cool show", other's aren't so convinced with folk being reminded of sports day.

Taking to social media one said: "Come in get on with it! Bit drawn out."

Another joked: "When's the Egg and Spoon?"

A third tweeted: "This is so painful to watch - what a load of rubbish."

"Giving me PTSD of school sports day" a fourth commented.
