ITV The Games viewers call for major 'flaws' to be fixed and Holly Willoughby to be replaced if show returns

ITV launched its brand new show The Games earlier this week. It saw a bunch of celebrities put through their paces while competing in a series of Olympic-style games.

Hosted by Holly Willoughby and Freddie Flintoff - with commentary from Chris Kamara, aka Kammy - the famous faces underwent 12 weeks of training to battle it out in sporting events and rack up points to win gold, silver or bronze medals.

The celebs were split into male and female categories, with Coronation Street's Colson Smith, former Corrie star Ryan Thomas, reality star Wes Nelson, Strictly's Kevin Clifton, The Wanted's Max George and Harry Potter's Josh Herdman featuring in the men's competition, whilst female contestants included model Christine McGuinness, reality star Olivia Attwood, footballer Chelcee Grimes influencer Phoenix Gulzar-Brown, journalist Lucrezia Millarini and Emmerdale's Rebecca Sarker.

After competing against each other every day this week in categories such as the hurdles, swimming, javelin, weight-lifting and the 100 metre final last night (May 13), it was Wes Nelson who was crowned the ultimate champion alongside Chelcee Grimes as the top scoring female.

But as the TV show has now drawn to a close, viewers have aired their thoughts on the competitive series, picking up on some 'major faults' they've witnessed throughout the week.

"#TheGames… it’s an alright concept but has some major flaws… scrap the chatting bits… focus on the events… make it a more fair playing field or have more age or skill groups… get rid of Jermaine Jenas… replace Holly with the OG Clare Balding," said Keane on Twitter.

"If The Games comes back ... less 'presenters', less guests, less chatting and many more events. Oh yeah, and less adverts," wrote another viewer.

"I like Holly on This morning but agree with most here why is she hosting #TheGames Freddie coulda done it on his own and saved em some money," said a third.

"Watched this weeks coverage of the celebrity games. The format needs cleaning up little and coverage seems to focus on certain competitors, ignoring others. Hosting, feel Freddie actually brought out the best in Holly. Great pairing. Rushed at the end. Shame," tweeted another viewer.

Despite these perceived errors, it seems that the new ITV show was a hit and viewers want to see it return again with a brand new set of celebrities.

"I thought that the whole concept and idea of #TheGames I thoroughly enjoyed throughout the week, still rather random quite a lot and there are teething problems with it, should it come back, I'd hope it does, we'll have too wait and see if it does return," said one viewer.

"Congratulations to everyone in The Games hope it returns," wrote Caroline.

"Really enjoyed #thegames but need to tighten up the graphics (missing timers, poor overlays, or just not even appearing). Hopefully it did well enough to return," said one fan.
