ITV The Chase viewers stunned by contestant's response to Anne Hegerty's higher offer

The Chase viewers were stunned by a contestant's response to Anne Hegerty's higher offer.

On the show, Liz, Tariq, Sue and Tom were up against The Governess today in the hope of winning a potential prize fund worth thousands of pounds.

Up first was Liz from Devon who was looking to use some of the prize money to help fund her son's university education.

Anne took on Liz (ITV)

Liz had a brilliant cash-builder, answering most questions correctly and securing an impressive £7,000.

She then faced Anne in the head-to-head round.

Before starting the second stage of the show, Liz had the option of earning more money as Anne offered her a higher offer.

The Governess told Liz that she could have three times as much money, offering her £21k.

Anne offered the next contestant £34k (ITV)

However, Liz told Anne she thought it wasn't enough money to be tempted.

Viewers were flabbergasted by her admission, taking to Twitter.

Tony said: "Why do they bother with the high offer?"

Another tweeted: "But three times as much isn’t enough? Wow.."

A third wrote: "21K is not enough?!"

And TWJ said: "Why is £21,000 not good enough for seat one, but good enough for seat four?

"Is it because seat four have to walk an extra six feet from their seat and they need to make it worth it?"

Yet some did agree with Liz.

One wrote: "Come on Anne, you should have offered her more than that."
