ITV The Chase's Mark Labbett starstruck with Liverpool contestant

The Chase's Mark Labbett became taken with a Liverpool contestant on today's show.

Shamus, Lynn, Hollie and Ian were all hoping to win big on the ITV gameshow as they faced The Beast.

But Liverpool contestant Shamus, already struck up a bond with Mark early on in the show.

The chef, originally from Luton, revealed to host Bradley Walsh that he'd previously trained with Gordon Ramsey, before making the move to Liverpool.

Asked what he would do if he won any money, Shamus said he'd lost a couple of friends to terminal illnesses and would like to write a cookbook to raise money for Marie Curie.

The 37-year-old had a shaky cash-builder round, after being given some difficult questions.

But he managed to scoop an impressive £4,000.

It was then time to face The Beast in the head-to-head round.

However, Mark was already enamoured with Shamus.

He said: "Well you spend all day working around food, you're already a winner in my book."

The Chase's twitter account tweeted out the funny clip, captioning the post: "'You're already a winner in my book.' The Beast loves to have a chef on the show", followed by a starstruck emoji.

Unfortunately, Shamus didn't make it to the final round, after answering a question about English royalty wrong.
