On Twitter, user @NorfolkTina said: "This man was well known in a local town and sadly passed away in a house fire a few months ago."
Ian Horne commented on the post, saying: "Yes he was a proper local celebrity, very sad watching."
Another said: "Calling all family, friends and acquaintances of Pete Green, Tomorrow, 20th September 5pm, ITV The Chase.
"The recorded session in which Pete took part. Going to feel very strange watching it."
Other users on social media, linked to an article by Eastern Daily Press, dated June 29 2021, announcing the death of Pete Green.
According to EDP, the town crier died following a fire at his home on Damgate Street in Wymondham on June 27.
The ECHO has contacted ITV for comment.
On The Chase, viewers saw Pete's teammate Jessica perform exceptionally well, earning £45,000.
As the last contestant, Pete opted for the sensible choice of minus £5000, in order to make it to the final.
In the final round, Pete and Jessica scored 13 but achieved four pushbacks after six incorrect answers from Paul Sinha.
However, they missed out on the prize fund by one second as The Sinnerman answered the final question at rapid speed.
