Mike was up in seat 1 and the 56-year-old from Gloucestershire proceeded to put in a breathtaking cash-builder performance.
The airline consultant banked a whopping £11,000 in the first round as he answered every single question correctly.
Viewers following the programme on Twitter were convinced Mike had set a record with his showing.
Kevin said: "#mike is the #newchaser 11 world record"
William added: "This Mike is on another level to anything I’ve seen before"
Steve commented : "Oh my god. Mike just scored £11,000 in the cash builder. To say that's crazy is an understatement"
Marie posted: "11 ! That’s got to be a record surely"
Remy tweeted: "Genius alert"
Bradley Walsh branded the performance as "amazing" and Paul Sinha said it was a "pleasure to meet the new Chaser" before their head-to-head.
Mike resisted the temptation of the higher offer and proceeded to confidently navigate his way past The Sinnerman to book his spot in the Final Chase.
He was joined in the last round by Anne-Marie and Alex - and the team were competing for a grand total of £21,000.
They built up 19 steps in the last round, but the Sinnerman was in imperious form and caught the team with three seconds remaining.
The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV and ITV Hub
