ITV The Chase contestant branded 'selfish' as viewers turn over to BBC's Pointless

Viewers of ITV's The Chase were outraged this evening as a contestant tried to justify taking the lower offer.

Jimmy, 22, from Derby banked £3,000 in the cash builder round, but when he came to face the chaser Shaun Wallace he decided to go low given that the first player Vee had brought home £23,000.

Trying to justify his actions, he said: "I never thought I would do this, but since I will still be bringing something back, I am going to take the £1,000."

But regular fans of the show were less than impressed with his decision and some even said they could no longer watch, opting to turn over to rival show BBC's Pointless.

'You look so slim' fans go wild over ITV This Morning Holly Willoughby's stunning dress

One said: "Jimmy snake," followed by a number of snake emojis.

Another said: "£1,000?! Selfish!! Turning this s**t off and going to Pointless!"

One viewer tweeted: "'Because it's still adding'. Urgh."

Some thought The Dark Destroyer had been too generous not giving a minus offer.

One fan of the award-winning quiz show said: "Once again, Shaun is being way too generous with his low offers!"

After 39-year-old PA, Jo banked a further £6,000, the three remaining team members played for £30,000 in the final chase.

Unfortunately, they were easily caught by Shaun and all left with nothing.

*The Chase is on ITV1, weekdays from 5pm
