ITV Starstruck viewers ask if contestants are miming as fans wowed by 'off the scale' talent

The grand final of new ITV talent show Starstruck saw pop sound-alikes take to the stage to show off their singing talents in a gripping showdown. The show, presented by Olly Murs and judged by Adam Lambert, Sheridan Smith, Jason Manford and Beverley Knight, has transformed superfans into their music idols since its launch in February.

Three superfans formed a team and just one of them was then selected to go through to the live final for the chance to win a £50,000. And in the final six finalists from each team took to the stage again - Rob as Freddie Mercury, Rachael as Cher, Annastasia as Tina Turner, Frankie as Billie Eilish, Keeley as Barbra Streisand and Fil as Lionel Richie.

Viewers watching at home were blown away by the talent with some asking if they were miming. This was dispelled earlier in the series by ITV, judge Jason and host Olly.

And after Rachel's convincing performance as Cher on her massive hit Believe, Olly shut down talk of lip syncing by saying: "I can confirm she wasn't miming."

@Vicnicjl asked on Twitter: "Cher miming?"

@dagiye marvelled: "Hold on, was Cher miming. she sounded exactly like Cher. Incredible! #Starstruck."

@lady_manor said: "I swear she is miming to the actual Cher #Starstruck."

The Starstruck judges (ITV)

@katlvsjames asked: "Are they miming?"

@Hortini wondered: "Are they miming on #starstruck ???"

And @sparklessandart tweeted: "Are these miming?? #starstruck."

But fan @jasonhume said: "#Starstruck FFS they are singing live, it's been confirmed by the judges including @JasonManford and @ollymurs on here."

@PaulDArm gasped: "Wow talent is (flame emoji) tonight! #Starstruck."

The Starstruck finalists (ITV)

@RyanHTAFC8 tweeted: "The talent in this final is off the scale just WOWWW."

And @mikeystermedia wrote: "Wow, #Starstruck has its fair Cher of talent tonight."

Salford comic Jason, who came second on ITV's The Masked Singer as Hedgehog, previously took to Twitter to hush miming accusations.

"I’m not sure how many times I can reiterate this but they all sing live, think about it for a second, what would be the point otherwise?! Even the Masked Singer you sing live (much to my surprise!)" he said.

Freddie impersonator Rob Lea shared a video of himself singing on social media and said: "For all those who said that #Starstruck contestants were #miming. All #Live baby!". And last week Olly tweeted: "Honestly the comments on starstruck that people are miming, yeah ITV thought 'Hey let’s do a show where people transform into the idols and mime?'"

In the final each contestant transformed into their icon one last time. And Rachael Hawnt was crowned winner as Cher. "I'm dumbstruck let alone Starstruck," she said excitedly.
