ITV has unveiled two new TV commissions, including a hospital drama set in Goa and a “domestic horror” about a boy with a supernatural power.
ITV has commissioned three-part drama Him, which is being produced by the maker of the cold case crime drama Unforgotten.
The story focuses on a 17-year-old boy who finds himself stuck between the homes of his divorced parents, while engaged in a “primal struggle” to contain the terrifying secret of a power he inherited from his grandfather.
The drama has been written by Paula Milne, whose credits include The Politician’s Husband, and is being made by production company Mainstreet.
“Him tells the gripping story of a boy capable of psychic phenomena,” said Steve November, ITV’s director of drama. “It’s extraordinary and unlike any drama we’ve commissioned before.”
ITV has also commissioned a medical drama called The Good Karma Hospital.
The six-part series is set in Goa and follows a team of British and Indian medics as they “cope with work, life and love at an overworked and under-resourced cottage hospital”.
The series is being made by Tiger Aspect, the producer of shows including Peaky Blinders and Ripper Street, and written by Dan Sefton.
“Dan Sefton’s scripts are beautifully written and deal with themes we’ll all identify with – love, loss, relationships, family conflict, facing adversity and the importance of seizing the day,” said November. “The Good Karma Hospital is a feel-good drama full of warmth and characters we will love.”
