ITV's new thriller Viewpoint has been heralded as 'the new Line of Duty' with its first episode ending with a gripping conclusion as millions tuned in.
The five part drama, which will air every week night this week, stars Noel Clarke as DC Martin Young, who sets up his observation post in the home of single mum and secret voyeur, Zoe Sterling.
The reason for surveillance officer Martin's interest in Zoe's home is the fact it provides a direct sightline into the home of missing primary school teacher, Gemma Hillman, whose disappearance forms the focus of the Viewpoint plot.
The local community rally after Gemma goes missing with police identifying her boyfriend Greg Sullivan, who Zoe witnessed having an angry altercation with Gemma, as their prime suspect.
The Viewpoint cast also includes former Coronation Street star Katherine Tyldesley and its first part on Monday night also provided glimpses of something traumatic that still haunts Martin from his time with the CID.
By the first ad break 15 minutes, viewers took to Twitter to say they'd got into Viewpoint instantly and after episode 1's final scene saw Zoe ignore Martin's orders and go into Gemma's house with Greg, many were counting the hours until part two tonight (Tuesday).

Viewpoint's promising start had some fans making the bold declaration that it could be 'the new Line of Duty' while others were just happy to have something to take their minds off the BBC drama before its finale on Sunday.
One tweeted: "Could itv’s Viewpoint be the new Line of Duty, asking for a friend?" and, sharing the same thoughts, another posted: "I think @ITV has a rivalry for @LineOfDuty on @BBC1 bloody brilliant"
A third even suggested that Viewpoint was "better" than Line of Duty, however, loyal Line of Duty fans were quick to rubbish any comparisons, with one blasting: "Trouble is when you watch Line of Duty nothing else seems that good!" and another writing: "#Viewpoint is no Line Of Duty is it?"
Others said that Viewpoint just made them miss the one drama 'that can rival' Line of Duty, Unforgotten, which came to an end on ITV last month.
