ITV's Vera series finale features 'amazing' cameo from well known North East TV star

There was a well known local TV personality for viewers in the North East to recognise in Vera's series finale, with the star in question absolutely delighted at being handed the 'amazing' opportunity to star in the drama.

After series 11 was cut short y ITV in early 2022, Vera fans' patience was finally rewarded last month when the much loved show made its long awaited return to kick off a run of six new episodes. Vera's return to its 8pm Sunday night slot has given viewers 12 hours of unmissable drama, as the final feature length instalments of series 11 kicked things off, before being followed straight after by the new offerings of series 12.

The last of those was The Darkest Evening, which definitely proved to be one of Vera's most intense episodes to date as Brenda Blethyn's famous character was forced to confront her past and her family after being caught up in a violent storm. And news of the storm which brought about all the chaos was delivered by a man very much in the know when it comes to meteorological forecasts - ITV Tyne Tees weatherman Ross Hutchinson.

While his appearance on screen was brief, Ross was clocked by viewers on home turf, one of those being his ITV colleague, presenter Amy Lea who tweeted: "I don’t think we are ever going to hear the end of this now!! Ross has made it into an episode of #vera on @ITV (he played himself - as a weatherman )." Amy cheekily @'d Vera leading lady Brenda to ask: "@BrendaBlethyn - marks out of 10 for his performance?!"

Ross himself took to Twitter to joke: "My fear is I’m being typecast…" and, speaking to ITV said he was thrilled to be asked to be involved, saying: "Vera is such a stand out show on ITV and it is always great fun spotting the North East locations, so to now be a (small) part of that is amazing.

"I think the best thing though is the number of messages my mum is getting off her friends who spotted my brief cameo."
