ITV's Vera new series filming to start in Hexham as residents receive letters

THe cast and crew of Vera are about to descend on a Northumberland town, as filming for the new series gets underway.

After nearly a year's wait for new episodes, as a result of ITV's decision to pull series 11 from the schedules with two episodes remaining, fans of the much loved sUnday night drama finally saw their patience rewarded in January, when Vera returned to screens, with the 'missing' parts airing first, before going straight into four brand new feature length tales from series 12.

The latest series wrapped up on ITV1 at the end of February, with a rather anxious moment for lovers of all things DCi Stanhope, when the no nonsense sleuth fell to the ground and suffered a head wound as gun shots were heard. Thankfully, she was alright and will be back to get to the bottom of more murder mysteries in series 13.

And that could arrive on screen earlier than anticipated as filming looks like it's going to kick off in the very near future, after locals in Hexham received word of production taking up residence in the town.

A letter, posted to residents and businesses read: "We are hoping to use Hexham as the main location for the first episode. There are several businesses we are in contact with to organise filming on their premises, we also plan to film on the streets and roads around Market Place on our visit. The scenes will mainly be filmed around Market Place and St Mary's Chare.

"We have been working closely with Northumberland County Council and Highways team to make our filming happen and to obtain the necessary permits to put in place a road control on our filming days."

The letter ended by promising an update to all concerned in the next few weeks.

There have been some big changes in personnel for Vera's next erun, with Kenny Doughty and Ibinabo Jack both quitting their roles and David Leon making a shock comeback as Joe Ashworth, DCI Stanhope's original sidekick.
