ITV commentator Sam Matterface has admitted that overseeing England's Euro 2020 final against Italy on Sunday will be the "pinnacle" of his career.
The 43-year-old replaced Clive Tyldesley as the channel's lead football and England commentator at the start of last season.
And it has not taken long for him to be given the opportunity to take to the microphone on a truly historic occasion for the Three Lions.
Speaking to The Sun, Matterface reflected on the tournament so far, and looked ahead to the potential of England lifting the trophy on Sunday night.
"We’ve had great viewing figures on ITV precisely because of the heroics of this England team," he said. "Southgate has given the players to chance to express themselves and because it’s on terrestrial TV, it gives kids the chance to fall in love with the game.
"I’m very fortunate to do what I do on the radio at talkSPORT and TV, but if Harry Kane lifts the trophy on Sunday, it will be the pinnacle of my career.
"Everyone dreams of covering a successful England team and to do that on Sunday after 55 years would be so special.
"Let’s hope we all witness history …AGAIN on ITV just like we did on Wednesday."
ITV will be in a war with BBC over viewing figures, with both channels holding the rights to show the weekend's final.
And while ITV's coverage of the game begins at 6.30pm, BBC's starts ten minutes earlier at 6.20pm, with some believing this is a deliberate ploy to entice the general public.
Meanwhile, both broadcasters have announced their line-ups for the big game.
Gary Lineker will host the BBC’s coverage, with Alan Shearer, Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard joining him as pundits. Lineker is third on the list of England’s all-time top scorers with Shearer joint-seventh and Lampard joint-tenth, while Ferdinand made 81 appearances for the Three Lions between 1997 and 2011.
Guy Mowbray will be on commentary duties along with Jermaine Jenas, who earned 21 England caps during his career. Meanwhile, Gabby Logan will be pitchside alongside former England defender Alex Scott and German World Cup winner Jurgen Klinsmann, while Kelly Somers will provide squad news and conduct player interviews.
Over on ITV, Ian Wright, Roy Keane and Gary Neville will join host Mark Pougatch in the studio. Wright made 33 appearances for England in his career, while Neville made 85 and was assistant manager to Roy Hodgson during his time in charge of the national team.
Presenter Seema Jaswal will be pitchside alongside Chelsea Women manager Emma Hayes and former Three Lions stalwart Ashley Cole. Matterface and Lee Dixon will provide the commentary with contributions from Hayes and Neville.
