ITV's Our House based on book by Northumberland born author Louise Candlish

There is a strong Northumberland connection to Our House, the new thriller that got everyone talking when it made its debut on Monday night.

After having their appetite well and truly whetted by trailer adverts which have aired on ITV for the past few weeks, viewers finally got their first proper look at the four part series on Monday night.

Our House is concerned with the life of couple Fi and Bram, played by Tuppence Middleton and Martin Compston, with Fi having the rug pulled out from under her when she returns home one day to find strangers moving into her house.

To make matters worse, she is told that it was Bram who was responsible for selling it as she desperately tries to get in touch with him.

Episode one, which was ruined for some viewers when ITV 'went off', switched times from past to present as Fi and Bram's life was laid bare, including the fact he cheated on her with one of her neighbours.

And there was a very dramatic end to Monday's episode when Bram was involved in a a serious car accident.

Our House quickly became one of the big talking points on Twitter and one of the many people who reacted to it was Louise Candlish, the woman whose book inspired the drama.

While she no longer lives in the North East, best-selling author Louise was actually born in Hexham and has so far penned 15 books, including Our House which won her the 2019 British Book Award for Crime & Thriller.

She settled down to watch the first episode with a bottle of rose champagne and told her Twitter followers: "Remote at the ready for 9pm - can’t wait to catch up with everyone in the morning and see what you think!"

And then posting a picture of Martin Compston as Bram just as credits were rolling, she wrote: "Oh Bram."

Louise's other books include The Heights and The Other Passenger.
