ITV's Love Island 2023 starts with huge twist as Islanders enter villa

ITV have confirmed a huge change for the new series of Love Island, with a major first for the dating show happening just minutes into the new series.

Since it arrived on screen in 2015, 10 years after a celebrity version aired featuring the likes of Calum Best and Bianca Gascoigne, Love Island has become one of the most talked about shows on TV. Over the last eight years winners have included Amber Gill, Kem Cetinay, Dani Dyer and last year's top couple, Ekin Su and Davide.

Love Island was last on screen in January, with its second winter run being won by Kai and Sanam, as Maya Jama took over as host. Maya is back on presenting duties as Love Island returns to its usual home of Mallorca this week and millions are set to tune into to watch the frst episode of the new series at 9pm on June 5.

And there's a massive twist to the new Islanders first day in the villa, as for the first time ever both boys and girls will enter the Villa at the same time, rather than going in separately and coming face-to-face for the first time at the coupling up.

Ruchee and Jess are the first Islanders to arrive and then get a shock as they are joined by Mitchell, Ella and André as they get to know each other in what ITV are calling one of Love Island’s most flirtatious first episodes.

The singles are then joined by Maya, as she explains to them that they won't have any say on who they pair up with, with viewers already deciding the couples by way of a public vote.
