ITV's Lorraine Kelly slams 'utterly bizarre' Nicola Peltz and Brooklyn Beckham wedding lawsuit

Lorraine Kelly has slammed the 'utterly bizarre' lawsuit between Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz family against their wedding planners.

The details of the celebrity wedding extravaganza are being laid out in a courtroom after billionaire Nelson Peltz, 80, launched legal action against the owners of Plan Design Events, Nicole Braghin and Arianna Grijalba, after they failed to return his huge deposit for his daughter's big day last year.

Nicola, 28, tied the knot with Brooklyn, 23, at the Peltz Miami estate last April in a lavish ceremony spanning three days but the event is now being overshadowed by the family's current legal action. Discussing the latest revelations in court with showbiz correspondent Ross King and entertainment editor Lucie Cave, Lorraine, 63, slammed the situation as 'bizarre'.

Nelson is suing Plan Design Events, despite hiring them just six weeks before the wedding, for refusing to refund his $159,000 ( £132,000) deposit after they were fired. Now the pair filed a countersuit against him, accusing the family of poor communication and of making a number of difficult demands on short notice.

Explaining the situation to viewers, Lucie detailed Nelson's original lawsuit and the company's counterclaim against himself, Nicola and her mum Claudia. Flabbergasted that the billionaire was adamant to get his deposit sum back, Lorraine quipped: "Ok, but then he is one of the richest people in the world - would you not just suck it up rather than having all of this in the public domain?"

Lucie added: "You'd think that they'd learn, anytime anyone files a lawsuit - look at Rebekah Vardy - everything comes out in public and it has in full force."

Lucie continued to detail claims that have emerged in the countersuit, including that Nicola allegedly spent £85,000 on her hair and make-up while mum Claudia begged the wedding planners not to tell Nelson this detail. She added that Nicola's father allegedly branded the wedding a 's*** show' and wanted to cancel the entire thing, but Claudia convinced him otherwise 'because it would ruin Nicola's career'.

In response, Lorraine asked: "What does she do? Nicola?" Before Lucie reminded her that she is an actress and a model. Going on to discuss the WhatsApp messages that have now been revealed in court, Lucie and Lorraine discuss the flower arrangements that the Bates Motel actress did not like.

Nicola allegedly rejected the floral arrangements for not being white enough. Responding to a picture of peonies and cabbage roses, she reportedly said: “They should be more white – I didn’t realise the second picture [of roses] were cream.”

Discussing another set of message exchanges, Lucie adds that Brooklyn gets the brunt of it when he makes food suggestions for the wedding. When hearing about Brooklyn's idea to have a burger named after him, Lorraine simply says: "Oh jeez," before bursting into laughter at his misspelling of 'which' as 'witch' in the texts.

In texts that have emerged in the latest lawsuits, Nicola was not happy when her now husband suggested to have “Brooklyn” and “Nicola” burgers to be served at the wedding. Brooklyn suggested having a “double or single burger” as a “Brooklyn” burger and a “Nicola burger witch [sic] is no bun and it’s lettuce instead of Bun and meat for the girls”.

Reacting to the idea of calling one of the burgers “Bag it Like Beckham”, Nicola allegedly replied: “These names are embarrassing.”

Concluding on all the information, Lorraine branded the wedding 'utterly joyless'. She said: "Can I just say that sounds like the most utterly joyless wedding. Devoid of fun and happiness. How silly that it's ended up in a courtroom."

She added: "Who ever wants their private stuff to be out there, and it's their own blinking fault. Don't file a lawsuit."

When asking Ross if there has been any stateside attention on the case, he quipped: "There's not really been much reaction out here at all because they're not really that big news out here. What does seem incredibly strange is that wasn't sorted, and dad just paid the money and let it go away."

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on STV.
