ITV's Lorraine issued warning after Ofcom receives almost 4,000 complaints

Viewers were left unhappy after an episode of Lorraine aired last month, so much so Ofcom received almost 4,000 complaints about its content.

Now, ITV have been issued with a warning telling them that they must take "greater care" after Dr Hilary Jones shared inaccurate vaccine statistics on the ITV morning show.

In total, 3,833 complaints were made on December 6 of last year after the Doctor urged anyone who had not yet received their vaccination to come forward.

Speaking on the show Dr Hilary said: "Those people who haven’t been vaccinated, we'd really love you to think again and be vaccinated because 90% of people in hospital are unvaccinated right now with covid."

The comments came after a surge of omicron cases were seen in Scotland - and the rest of the UK - on the run up to Christmas.

The show later had to clarify what it meant. (Lorraine.)

A few days after the episode was aired, the show broadcast a clarification explaining the statistic related to patients in intensive care units rather than the proportion of unvaccinated covid patients in hospital.

It was then on Monday (January 10) that the broadcasting watchdog Ofcom ruled it would not be launching a formal investigation, reports MEN.

In a statement, Ofcom said: "This programme incorrectly referenced the proportion of unvaccinated Covid-19 patients in hospital.

"We have told ITV that greater care should be taken by trusted medical experts when presenting facts and figures on public health issues.

"However, given official statistics and research have consistently shown that vaccination against Covid-19 offers greater protection against serious health consequences, we do not consider that the error was sufficient to materially mislead viewers on this main point of discussion."

On Monday's Lorraine, the 62-year-old presenter hit back after revealing she and medical guests on the show get 'trolled' when they talk about Covid vaccines.

During the discussion Lorraine said: "You know every single time we talk about this, we get trolled."

She added: "I don’t care, I really don’t - we just have to be safe."

In response Dr Hilary said: "There will be a minority that will want to troll us but we can't be intimated."
