ITV's I'm A Celeb fans fume as Ant and Dec mock Richard Madeley in badly timed joke

Ant and Dec have angered I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! fans by tweeting an ill-timed joke at the expense of Richard Madeley.

Richard was rushed to hospital last night and has now quit the show after breaking the production's Covid bubble.

He is now fortunately "fine", but in a case of awkward timing Ant and Dec took to Twitter during the show to poke fun at his last trial.

Richard didn't have the best time when it came to Castle Kitchen Nightmares - winning just four out of ten stars and getting covered in fish guts.

The Geordie duo, who were in hysterics during the debacle took to Twitter later posting a photo of a skeleton with the caption: “Us waiting for Richard to undo the knots #ImACeleb.”

However fans didn't see the funny side with one fuming: “Disgusting post. U try doing it & be laughed at. That man went to hospital & u post this?

"I thought u 2 we’re good people………will not watch either of you.

"U have parents shame on you both."

Another wrote: “Bit of an unfortunate photo now we know Richard has been taken to hospital.”

While a third said: “That’s mean! The trial was unrealistic to achieve in 10 mins. Poor @richardm56 he did well regardless & still managed Medium stars.

"He’s been such a positive influence on others, supporting/lifting them.”

The Mirror has contacted ITV for comment.

The 65-year-old was rushed to hospital last night as a precaution, however despite now feeling "fine" Richard has been forced to quit the show having broken the show's Covid bubble.

The Good Morning Britain presenter said that he was "gutted" to be leaving as he thanked everyone for their support during his brief journey on the show.

He wrote: “Hello all!

"Richard here – firstly just to say that I’m absolutely FINE. I started to feel briefly unwell in the small hours of the morning and was taken to hospital as a precaution. By leaving the camp, I had consequently broken the Covid ‘bubble’ and as such I’ve had to leave the castle and all the wonderful celebs that remain in the camp.

"Obviously I’m gutted to be leaving so soon but the safety of all the campmates is the number one priority. I’m incredibly excited to watch their journey continue…even more so at the prospect of being somewhere a little warmer than Gwrych Castle."

I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! continues tonight on ITV at 9pm.
