ITV rubbish reports The Jonathan Ross Show is being axed by announcing its return

Reports that The Jonathan Ross Show has been axed have been rubbished by ITV - who have now renewed it.

The Saturday night talk show has reportedly suffered "poor ratings", according to The Sun, but the veteran host will return again next year for another series.

A spokesman for ITV told Mirror Online: "The Jonathan Ross Show isn’t being axed and will return to ITV in 2020."

This followed reports in The Sun that the show was being pulled from the schedules after a down turn in viewers.

It has pointed at the fact that Ross pulled in 1.2 million viewers last Saturday for his show, which saw England cricketer Jofra Archer, actress Rebel Wilson and Jason Derulo on his sofa.

In contrast, BBC's Friday night offering from Graham Norton boasted 2.6 million viewers and had had a string of Hollywood A-listers joining the genial host in what has been seen as a trumping of guests over the ITV show.

The Sun reported that a TV insider said: “There’s no doubting Jonathan is one of telly’s best chat show hosts, but his series is really struggling.

“When a show is rested, that usually means a broadcaster is hoping they can find something better to replace it and that certainly seems the case here.”

It would seem that The Jonathan Ross Show had just finished its run on TV and was being replaced in the schedule anyway and wasn't being axed before its time was up.

This is the 15th series that Ross has presented for ITV since his high profile move from the BBC in 2010
