ITV Racing tips: Newsboy backs Starman to win the July Cup on Saturday's Newmarket card

STARMAN is expected to blow your mind in the Group 1 Darley July Cup (4.25) at Newmarket today.

Ed Walker’s rocket-powered speedster, who shares his name with David Bowie’s hit single from the iconic Ziggy Stardust album, has suffered just one defeat in five career starts.

That reverse came on soft ground in the top-level British Champions Sprint at Ascot last October – hence Starman’s withdrawal from the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at the Royal meeting three weeks ago.

Conditions on the July Course this afternoon will be much more suitable for a colt who made a winning return to the fray in the Group 2 Duke Of York Stakes at the Dante Festival in May.

Starman had five of his afternoon’s opponents – headed by third-placed Oxted, who won this prize 12 months ago – in his wake on the Knavesmire, and Tom Marquand’s mount has any amount of improvement still to come.
