ITV quiz show Lingo being used by delighted parents as 'home lesson' as schools close

A recently launched ITV quiz show has become an instant hit for parents who are using it as a 'lesson' for their children now that schools are closed once again.

After telling parents that pupils would be "completely safe" going back to classrooms just 24 hours earlier, Prime Minister Boris Johnson did a full u-turn and put England into a third national lockdown on Monday night, closing schools in the process.

That put the responsibility on parents across the country to encourage their child's learning and, before the BBC's educational programming launches next week, Lingo, a new programme fronted by Good Morning Britain star Adil Ray, has been picked up by many families as a great way to have fun while learning.

Lingo, as its title suggests, is a game of words and sees three teams pitted against each other in a battle to find words of varying lengths.

With each round the stakes become higher and the prize money escalates. And, while children at home can't get their hands on big money, they can definitely earn a gold star from their parents for their efforts.

Parents have taken to Twitter to thank host Adil for helping with their home schooling, with one tweeting him to say: "Loving Lingo, this should be part of home schooling. My 12 year old who thinks he’s no good at English is a big fan. Great show!"

A second told him: "Kids are loving it, especially when they guess a word correctly"

Adil himself is promoting the show as a great way to get kids learning, tweeting: "Your English lesson begins in 20 minutes @itv. Chocolate, tea, crisps and biscuits are allowed in the classroom.

"Please post proof of kids watching TV in class to Twitter using #lingo Thank you. Mr. Ray. (The cool lingo teacher)."
