ITV Malpractice viewers slam 'unlikeable' character but ending twist from Line Of Duty writers changes minds

A gripping new drama from the writers who created Line Of Duty took ITV1 viewers on a rollercoaster on Sunday night as audiences took a while to warm to the main character - before a twist ending changed people's minds entirely.

Malpractice, set and filmed in Leeds, kicked off on ITV1 on Sunday night. The fictional drama follows A&E doctor at a West Yorkshire hospital Lucinda Edwards.

The drama centres around the death of a patient in A&E following an overdose.

But there seems to be more to it than first meets the eye and the plot thickens as Lucinda, played by Niamh Algar, is investigated for possible malpractice over the death.

As viewers saw Dr Edwards exchange a series of texts with a mysterious 'Rose', she meets a man in the park to tell him that she's going to have to 'come clean' to investigators about what really happened that night - and soon after he ends up hit and presumably killed by a car.

It turns out, then, that there's a lot more to it than meets the eye.

At first, ITV1 viewers weren't keen on Niamh's frosty and sharp edged portrayal of Dr Lucinda Edwards as she snapped at junior doctors on the ward and forced a student doctor to undertake a lumbar puncture on a child against her will.

@TVSpiv said: "Linking #malpractice & #LineOfDuty is more of a malpractice than this drivel. Impossible to like the lead character, suits interrogation felt like a contrived cookie cutter from LoD but with no medical background to give the interrogators gravitas. Needs Liverpool pathway"

But others seemed to take to them much better following the big twist ending, drawing comparisons to Line Of Duty.
