ITV Love Island star in health scare after being rushed to hospital in excrutiating pain

Love Island beauty Zara McDermott was rushed to A&E on Friday night after suffering 'excruciating abdomen pain'. The 25-year-old reality star was treated at hospital for a burst cyst in her ovaries.

Documentary maker Zara, who starred in the popular ITV2 dating series in 2018, was taken to A&E by her boyfriend Made In Chelsea star Sam Thompson, 30. Taking to social media to share her health scare, Zara posted a selfie from her hospital bed to her 1.7 million followers.

Filling followers in on her ordeal she wrote: "Wow last night was so eventful! Sam had to rush me to A&E because I had excruciating pain in my abdomen... had a feeling it was a burst cyst in my ovary becuse I've had it before on the other side and it felt extremely similar."

Sharing thanks to the medical team who cared for her, she typed: "I just want to say, the A&E team were just INCREDIBLE. I was seen so quickly and had all tests and scans done within 2 hours of being there.

"They wanted to keep me in overnight but after all the pain relief I felt a lot better so I had a few hours in bed before heading back in this morning for another few scans. They want to make sure my ovary isn't twisted as I was presenting with all the symptoms last night. But likely burst cyst - which if you've had before is EXCRUCIATING.'

Zara, who has been back on our screens with the BBC Three documentary Disordered Eating exploring eating disorders, later confirmed that her ovary isn't twisted but doctors did find blood in her abdomen.

"Thanks for your messages guys!!! They found blood in my abdomen which indicates it's a burst cyst for sure and nothing else; the good thing is that my ovary looks fine and isn't twisted," explained. She continued: "So lucky to have such an amazing NHS - they were so bloody brilliant and I'm going to have a relaxing weekend now."
