ITV Love Island's Jay teases about going 'back in' after Jacques quits show

The 2022 series of Love Island has never been short of drama and fans have been sent into a frenzy as a former Islander teased his return following the shock announcement that Jacques O'Neill has quit the show. Rugby player Jacques, an ex boyfriend of fellow Islander Gemma Owen, has left ITV2 dating show following a rocky time which saw his relationship with paramedic Paige Thorne put to the test.

He had viewers fuming as he decided to get to know new bombshells Mollie Salmon and Cheyanne Kerr, before deciding Cheyanne was the one for him while the original girls were away in neighbouring villa Casa Amor. He went on to kiss Cheyanne behind Paige's back as fans fumed over his betrayal.

Jacques chose to remain coupled up with Paige when she returned to the main villa last Thursday. But he was forced to explain his actions to an upset Paige after Cheyanne confessed by the firepit during a dramatic recoupling.

On Monday night he won Paige over after writing her a love note in lipstick on a piece of kitchen paper and then he wrote her a heartfelt text. But at the end of the episode viewers saw Jacques angrily leaping from his seat to confront Adam Collard who has made a comeback after starring in the 2018 series.

He was riled up after being told by Gemma Owen: "Oh he was proper slagging you off." And in the beach hut he demanded to know: "Who the f*** is he? Just another geezer who's been on the show."

A Love Island spokesperson said today (Tuesday June 12) of Jacques' exit: "Jacques has made the decision to leave the villa. He will explain his reasons to the Islanders during tonight’s episode. We fully support his decision and look forward to seeing what’s next for Jacques."

But viewers are confused by a potential major twist as his fellow Islander and former love rival Jay Younger, who was dumped from the island in Monday night's show with Chyna Mills following a public vote, shared a cryptic tweet teasing about 'flying straight back in.'

Sharing a photo from inside a plane he wrote: "When you just touch down and have to fly straight back in." And he added: "#ByeJacques" @amber61783191 replied: "Now why would you tweet something so confusing and get my hopes up about Jay going back into the villa?"

@iiwyy1 told him: "@JayYounger_Don’t tease me like that." @1983Bev said: "This would be epic plz say this is true if not I’m guna cry for the rest of the year!" And @xjadeclark asked him: "You coming back????"

Jay, an investment analyst from Edinburgh, said on his exit that he felt 'great' and 'like it was my time.' Arriving as a bombshell he wasn't in the villa long before he caught Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu's eye and the pair sneaked off to the terrace for secret kisses behind her partner Davide Sanclimenti's back.

A massive row broke out when Davide found out but he and Jay went on to become good friends. Jay's attention then turned to paramedic Paige Thorne but her heart was with her other half Jacques.

After Casa Amor stage he chose to recouple with Chyna, but cooled things off after realising the romantic spark wasn't there. Asked 'if you had your time in there again would you do anything differently?' he said: "Yeah, I would move a lot slower during the first week. I came in so fast. The whole Ekin-Su thing kind of put me in a lane." And now he might have his chance.

Love Island continues tomorrow at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox
