ITV Love Island's Gemma Owen isn't the only Islander hiding a famous relative

They're a few days into their Love Island experience and Gemma Owen is yet to reveal to her fellow Islanders that she has a famous dad. The 19-year-old has been causing quite the stir in the Spanish villa so far - from her age to her coupling up Davide Sanclimenti.

Just 24 hours into her appearance on the ITV2 dating show, Gemma swapped Liam Llewellyn for 27-year-old Davide after he arrived the night before as the show's first bombshell. He had to choose which girl he'd like to couple up with, leaving the remaining boy vulnerable to being dumped from the villa.

The decision caused outrage among viewers and during Wednesday's night episode (June 8), the pair headed away from the famous ITV2 villa in Mallorca to catch some rays while making lemonade together. And again, it got fans of the show casting their opinions.

And her dad, former Manchester United and Liverpool footballer Michael Owen, didn't seem too keen to talk about it as he appeared on Channel 4 as a pundit for England's game against Germany in the UEFA Nations League. The 42-year-old was left cringing after talk quickly turned to his daughter's Love Island antics before joking he had left the country to escape it.

Fans of the ITV2 dating show have already observed that Gemma appears keen to reveal her family connections but has so far kept schtum. However, she's not the only one hiding a famous relative.

It turns out Liam Llewellyn, who has found himself single after Italian Davide chose Gemma as his first partner, also has a sporting connection as the 22-year-old's father David Llewellyn is a former Wales international rugby union player. He played his club rugby for Ebbw Vale, Newport and Neath.

He was also part of the Wales squad for the World Cup and won four caps for the national team, featuring a further 12 times on the bench for his country.

The former rugby player now works as a personal trainer in Cardiff, helping some other very famous faces get into shape. He has recently been training boxing rising star Joe Cordina who was crowned the IBF super featherweight champion just a few days ago.

Following Cordina’s win over Kenichi Ogawa, he wrote online: “Great see @JoeCordina_91 champion of the world. One of my youngest ever clients. I new he would be great as he had that mindset as a teenager. So proud of you joe and your mother and dad will be so proud too!"

And he's also had something to say about Liam being ditched by Gemma - despite it not being her choice. Asked what he’d say to Gemma's dad Michael, he told Heart South Wales' Woody and Jagger show: "He’s a footballer, I’m a rugby player, I hope he doesn’t fall over when I shake his hand."
