ITV Love Island fans clock Luca Bish's reaction to coming runner-up with Gemma Owen

Love Island fans have spent the last two months watching romances and drama unfold in the villa and on Monday night (August 1) they were eagerly awaiting the results as to who had been crowned the 2022 winners. There were tears and emotional embraces as the Love Island finalists shared their declarations of love during the final of the ITV2 dating show before the results were revealed.

Before the winners were crowned, the boys donned tuxedos for a summer ball and waited for their partners to make an entrance. Luca Bish told Gemma "you look unreal" as she walked into the garden while Ekin-Su Culculoglu's arrival in a satin pink ball gown prompted her Italian partner Davide Sanclimenti to exclaim that she looked “beautiful”.

The couples then took turns reading their declarations of love to each other. Dami Hope had to pause and compose himself before reading his vow to Indiyah Polack, while she said they had gone from “from two heartbreakers to lovebirds” in reference to their troubles during Casa Amor week.

Tash Ghouri and Andrew Le Page also fought the tears as they gave their declarations. Andrew told Tasha he fell in love with her the moment she told him about her 'superpower' while Tasha said she knew he was special when he'd take out her cochlear implant if she fell asleep.

During Gemma’s vow to Luca she professed her love for him and said she “can’t wait to start a new chapter”. While Ekin-Su then told Davide: “It’s been a hell of a ride for us. They say Rome wasn’t built in a day and so are we. I love being together. The Turkish Delight and the Italian Stallion. You are my soulmate."

Laster, in a twist, it was revealed that ITV has scrapped the option for one of the winning couple to steal all of the prize money for themselves. Presenter Laura Whitmore welcomed viewers to the live final and confirmed the winning couple will not have to choose whether to split or steal the prize money, as in previous years.

She said: “After eight hot weeks and 36 amazing islanders looking for love, only four couples remain. There have been blow dries, bombshells and bed-hopping galore. But who will be crowned winners of Love Island 2022? The winning couple will split a huge £50,000 and this year we are not even asking them to choose between love and money."

Tasha and Andrew came in fourth place while Indiyah and Damie came in third leaving the public vote between Gemma and Luca and Ekin-Su and Davide. But it was the Turkish actress from Essex, 27, and Italian business owner, who lives in Manchester and is also 27, who won over viewers with their fiery but passionate relationship that spanned most of the series.

But as Laura revealed the results, eagle-eyed Love Island fans think they spotted that the runners-up with 'fuming'. @d__o_ra tweeted: "Lol Gemma and Luca are FUMING bless Ekin she just wanted to hug Gemma #LoveIsland." @celiashaara joked: "Luca is going to ask everyone in the country who they voted for. He’s fuming #LoveIsland."

@XOClaaaire screamed: "LUCA IS FUMING LOOK AT HIS FACE IM DEAD #LoveIsland." @SadeLoves_xox commented: "Nah the fact that Gemma and Luca didn’t even hug eachother or show any affection once Ekinde was announced is killing me #LoveIsland."
