ITV Lorraine Kelly admits she presented breakfast show after marathon drinking session

Lorraine Kelly has admitted she was once drunk when she presented a whole breakfast show.

The 59-year-old is celebrating 35 years in TV and as part of a special show, Good Morning Britain's Piers Morgan took over hosting duties to ask the mum-of-one about her three and a half decades in the business.

During the interview he brought up the rumour that Lorraine had once presented former ITV daytime show TV-am "drunk as a skunk".

Lorraine said: "I wasn't 'drunk as a skunk'. We had lunch at about 12 and I just never went to bed."

Piers said: "So you were drinking for 10 hours and you weren't 'drunk as a skunk'?"

She replied: "Well, you know when you drink so much that you drink your self sober?"

Piers said: "That is absolutely not a thing."

She continued: "Now most people would ring in and say they had food poisoning, but I have this thing where I have got to go to work.

"So I came to work and I did the whole show and no one noticed."

Lorraine was presenter of TV-am - the ITV breakfast show that preceded GMTV - from 1989 to 1993.

But she actually joined the team in 1984 as the Scotland Correspondent before becoming one of the main presenters.

Commenting on the special show, Victoria Kennedy, the editor of Lorraine, said last week: "Lorraine is a stalwart of British broadcasting. She must have racked up more live TV hours than almost any other presenter over the course of her career.

"She's interviewed everyone who's anyone and covered moving stories, from Dunblane to the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, so Monday's programme is going to be very special.

"As the show is a surprise, Lorraine doesn't know quite what to expect. But I can promise we will have some poignant moments and funny clips as well as some familiar faces to help mark the occasion.

*Lorraine is on ITV1, weekdays from 8:30am
