ITV launches new 'shoppable' programmes that helps you buy while you watch

Have you ever been watching Love Island and thought you want the find where someone bought their latest eye-liner or foundation?

Well bosses at ITV have now launched the first "shoppable" programmes letting viewers buy what they see on screen with just a few clicks of their remote.

The first TV show snapped up to the service will be Love Island, where viewers will be able to buy beauty products contestants are using from Boots, reports the Mirror.

Fans who opt-in will get pop-up adverts where they can simply click to order the items.

And the broadcaster hopes it can roll-out the idea to other shows if it takes off.

Paul Ridsdale, ITV’s acting chief marketing officer, said: “Shoppable TV is a wonderful innovation to allow ITV viewers to be able to shop directly from their TVs, filling a real gap currently in the market.

“We know ITV viewers enjoy being able to purchase items featured in our programmes and this makes doing that easier than ever before.”

The technology is initially only available to viewers who have internet-connected TVs made by LG.

ITV bosses insists the new option complies with strict rules around product placement in programmes.

Bosses also insisted the new system would be strictly opt-in.

A spokeswoman added that Love Island contestants would not be paid based on product sales.

Shoppable TV programmes are already massive in the US.
