ITV issue 'Beat The Chasers' update as it confirms Anne Hegerty won't feature in new series

ITV has issued an update over the new series of 'Beat The Chasers' - and it's not great news.

The series takes inspiration from The Chase - hosted by Bradley Walsh - however rather than four players taking on one Chaser - one player can have the option of taking on between two to four Chasers in a bid to win a cash prize.

In the 'Cash Builder' round, contestants must answer five multiple choice questions for the chance to bank up to £5,000 - however, if they start with a wrong answer, they are sent home.

The more Chasers the player is against, the more money they can potentially take home - however, the time advantage against them will decrease.

During the game the Chasers and players must answer the questions fast as they have a clock ticking.

If either get the question wrong, the clock will keep running until a correct answer is given and the first side to run out of time loses the game.

However in the update, fans may not be happy to know that the broadcaster issued a statement confirming that Anne Hegerty won't be filming the new series of Beat The Chasers due to covid.

A statement issued by the official ITV The Chase account confirmed: "Unfortunately, Anne 'The Governess' Hegerty has contracted Covid-19, so won't be filming the upcoming Beat The Chasers. We look forward to having her back on set soon.

"We're thrilled #TheChase and #BeatTheChasers Australia's @issaschultzofficial is able to step in."

According to Birmingham Live, Schultz is a seven-time winner of the Australian Quizzing Championships. He ranked 23rd in the world at the World Quizzing Championships in 2020, and has also appeared on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

In 2017, he appeared as a celebrity contestant on Hell's Kitchen Australia. The Chase UK has six Chasers it uses.
